Label Artist Series
“Wine is Art”
Each year we celebrate the difference nature brings us in that year’s vintage by commissioning a different artist to execute the art portion of our label. We only do this for the single varietals we produce and not our blended wines. This is because the truest expression of the unique properties of a specific vintage are best shown in a single varietal like Cabernet Sauvignon. When we blend different varietals together as in ISOSCELES we blend the vintage distinctiveness and thus labels for our blended wines remain the same each year.
The winery buildings and their surrounding vineyards are always the subject matter. However, each artist expresses their individual style and technique in their art. Thus while the subject is always the same, we use a different artist each year and the result is unique to that year. This is on purpose because our objective is to mimic in the art what happens in our wine. Namely, to show that although we use the same vineyard and employ the same winemaking techniques each year we still get a wine unique to that vintage. Kind of the same but different rule thus applies to BOTH the label art and the wine. The artists’ interpretation of the winery is like the winemaker’s interpretation of the vineyard’s grapes!
Berkshire Museum – Massachusetts
From April 1 to July 31, 2007 the JUSTIN 1994, 1996, and 1997 Original Label Art was on display as part of the “Art of Wine” Exhibit at the Berkshire Museum in Massachusetts. This Wine Auction showcased wine labels and art from wineries across the country and Germany. Since 2001, the Berkshire Museum has worked to create one of the Berkshire’s premiere wine tasting and auction events. We were invited to be a part of this exhibit “The Art of Wine…past, present and future” which also featured approximately 40 live auction lots as well as a large silent auction. Our exhibits were for view only and served to express our unique concept at JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery to educate lovers of art worldwide. They were displayed from April 1st to July 31st after which they were safely returned to the JUSTIN original artist series presentation at the winery!
We're proud to present our labels from 1987 to the present!
