About the Wine

The 2021 FOCUS expresses the now world-famous potential of Paso Robles to produce the highest quality New World Syrah. For this vintage, we selected the best of the best syrah fruit of the vintage and released only a few hundred cases of this remarkable wine that showcases our ability to craft exceptional wines in a variety of styles.

Appearance

Bright with a dark purple/ruby core showing a black secondary color getting lighter toward the rim, with a violet hue and moderately stained tears showing on the glass.

Aroma

Aromatic and complex with red plum, ripe blackberry, cherry cola, toasted baking spices, grilled plum, sage, and rose petal.

Palate

Medium- to full-bodied with lush ripe fruit character on entry, including blackberry, elderberry, and red plum. The energetic midpalate features expansive black raspberry, bright red cherry, and floral notes, with savory elements of dusty dried herbs, smoked meat, and toasted spice that are balanced by fresh acidity. A moderately long finish follows with ripe fruit, oak, and spice, framed by moderate, smooth tannins. The wine benefits from decanting now, but will gain complexity with more savory elements appearing in the coming years.
