About the Wine

In 1987, we made our first vintage of a wine styled after the famous First Growth producers of Bordeaux, crafted with the same uncompromising care as the Grands Vins of those venerable chateaux. Full-bodied, with ripe black fruit and complex baking spice, it’s ready to drink right out of the gate, but be sure to save a few bottles as it continues to evolve after some time in the cellar.

Appearance

Clear with a deep purple-ruby core that lightens to bright ruby at the rim with persistent, slow forming tears and subtle staining on the glass.

Aroma

Intensely aromatic, featuring blackberry cobbler, black cherry, and ripe plum layered with dried sage, camphor, sweet tobacco, cinnamon stick, and vanilla bean.

Palate

Full-bodied, dry and brimming with ripe dark fruit on entry, with boysenberry, black currant, and black plum followed by notes of new leather, dried herbs, mocha and cedar on the midpalate that add depth and structure. Refined, velvety tannins and balanced acidity carry the wine into a long, complex finish marked by lingering dark berry, baking spice, vanilla, dark chocolate, and toasted oak.
