About the Wine
In addition to growing great cabernet sauvignon, the climate and soils of Paso Robles give us the opportunity to make distinct, high-quality wines using the mix of grape varieties associated with the Southern Rhône Valley of France: grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre. After using these varieties for a few of our wines, like FOCUS, SAVANT, and our Syrah for many years, we decided to introduce TRILATERAL, an exceptional “GSM” blend. This limited and highly acclaimed JUSTIN wine has quickly become one of our more popular offerings. It’s a classic Paso Robles expression of these traditionally Rhône grape varieties with ripe, complex fruit and subtle baking spice up front. You’ll notice cracked pepper and herbs with some slightly earthy notes as the palate develops, along with the complex suggestion of cured meats, especially after a few years in the bottle.
Tasting Notes
Varietal Composition
- % Syrah
- % Grenache
- % Mourvèdre
Body
Appearance
Clear and bright, with a deep ruby core that gently softens toward the rim and slow forming tears subtly stain the glass.
Aroma
Expressive and vibrant, opening with raspberry preserves, Satsuma plum, and ripe black cherry layered with savory spice, rose petal, warm clay, and a subtle lift of eucalyptus.
Palate
Dry and moderately full bodied, the palate reveals a darker fruit profile than the nose, with blackberry and huckleberry unfolding on entry. Velvety tannins and balanced acidity carry the wine through a layered midpalate of leather, clove, cinnamon, and dried violet. A long, polished finish lingers with dark fruit, vanilla, and cedar.
